The basics of how to track website visitors and identify them:

  • Associate every visitor with an anonymous ID
  • Use Call To Actions (CTAs) to get them to give you their email address or name
    • newsletter signups
    • eBook downloads
    • Free Demos
    • etc.
  • Link their anonymous ID to their contact info they just gave you
  • If they visit again from a new device give them a new anonymous ID and eventually relate it to their profile once they login/execute another CTA
